ILÈ
ILÈ meaning LIFE is culled from the Ebu speaking tribe of Delta state in the southern part of Nigeria.
Life is a cycle and in the race of life it is not known who wins or loses (until the end of time). So we live in search of freedom, we leave in migration for greener pastures. We intentionally live determined to stir the next person to making a lasting impression and taking every opportunity. But life has shown us that as beautiful as
the female folks and attempts to offer open ended solutions as inspired by greater women, who excelled in their careers despite the daily struggles.
Struggles that transcend our cultural values, our identity and our pride as women in today’s world. As a young female African I am concerned about the beauty and struggles in the cycle of life, as we know it from birth to death using dance as my medium for communication.
ILE can be aptly described as a result of my research on the beauty of life from birth to death. This artistic expression is a result of my December 2020 residency at Le Grin des Arts Vivants/lnternational Dance School Irene Tassembedo.
The inquest focuses on challenges and experiences associated with
the female folks and attempts to offer open ended solutions as inspired by greater women, who excelled in their careers despite the daily struggles.

This performance titled ILÈ is written, choreographed and interpreted by Biachi Gloria Ugwarelojo and was first showcased at the 9th Edition International Dance Festival Ouagadougou (FIDO) 2021.
